Abstract

The monograph titled “Freedom of the Media and the Right to Information” contains three main chapters in addition to the Introduction, Conclusion and Literature segments. The first chapter, titled “Freedom of the Media,” covers issues related to the history of freedom of the media, the concept of freedom of the media, the limitations of freedom of the media, and the relationships between freedom of the media and freedom of expression and of freedom of the media and the right to privacy. The second chapter, titled “The Right to Information,” addresses issues pertaining to the history of the right to information, the concept of the right to information, the relationship between the right to information and public media services, the relationship between the right to information and free access to information, as well as limitations related to the right to information. The third chapter, titled “European Regulations and Standards in the Field of Freedom of the Media and the Right to Information,” includes an analysis of the European regulations governing issues of freedom of the media and the right to information, from the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and individual directives of the EU pertaining to this field, to recommendations, declarations and resolutions of the Council of Europe related to the field of freedom of the media and the right to information.
