Abstract

This paper examines recent shifts in EU policy toward the Western Balkans and considers their implications for the region’s future within the EU. After the brief historical overview (Part I.), the paper analyzes recent changes in EU policy (Part II.) and presents a country-by-country analysis (Part III.). It then discusses key challenges facing the region (Part IV.) and the role of the EU (Part V.). Finally, the paper explores possible future scenarios for the Western Balkans in the context of EU integration (Part VI.), followed by concluding remarks (Part VII.).
