Over the past ten years, the EU participated in various activities undertaken by civilian and military actors, and thus contributed to peacebuilding. However, many academics and practitioners criticize the role of the EU in peacebuilding. The paper analysis the role of the European Union in peacebuilding through an overview of the institutional framework of the EU Peacebuilding and examination of challenges of EU Peacebuilding. The author also presents three conflict resolution theories which might be interesting for defining basis of the strategic peacebuilding.
