Abstract

A comprehensive analysis of the problems that the EU is currently facing and the suggestion of possible solutions to these problems goes beyond the scope of this paper. Taking into account the existing heterogeneity among Member States, this article attempts only to shed the light on some possible legal mechanisms to be implemented for the reorganization of the EU. These legal instruments differ in their nature, scope and achievements. They could be graded according to the level and intensity of Member States’ participation in the different EU policy areas. First of all, there is a differentiated integration, in a large sense of the term (Part II.). The second option might be a bilateral path, i.e. two bilateral approaches (Part III.). The third possibility is a sort of integration outside of the EU framework (Part IV.). The Commission’s White Paper on the future of Europe, i.e. five scenarios for the future integration models is also presented in the paper (Part V.).
