Abstract
As a matter of fact, judicial councils (JC) have been established in many countries in order to realize the principle of judicial independence. Appropriate composition and method of JC’s members election are very important to fulfill the proclaimed goal. In this paper author analyzes the composition and election of JC member’s in Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Romania. The author has selected four countries in Europe, which are all ex-communist countries and now the European Union members. The aim of this paper is to present and to compare the legal solutions regarding this topic, and to point out their advantages and disadvantages. That is the main benefit of the comparative method. The author wants to provide a modest contribution to the knowledge of this subject. This knowledge could in the future gain an importance, if at one time in the future it comes to the reform of the High Judicial Council in Serbia.
